  • Research Training
Training in specialized techniques (LCM, LM, FACS, negative cell isolations) can be done on site, or through transmission of protocols to remote sites. Training about sample and meta data entry into PEPR is accomplished through on-line tutorials and a live help-desk. Human subjects oversight is available via consultation with a research Genetic Counselor.
  • On-line Training
A series of informational web sites are available for on-line training, including texts on genomics database structures and voice-streaming lectures on experimental design and data interpretation. There are other websites of general interest to NCMRR researchers interested in genomics-based applications. These include NHGRI resources and the Programs for Genomic Applications (PGA) site. The National Coalition of Health Professionals for Education in Genetics also provides information and links to 64 courses on genetics/genomics.
  • Courses and Seminars
Two courses taught at the George Washington Medical School by Center faculty are currently available in a voice-streaming, “webinar” format. One course covers basic disease mechanisms, tutorials on genomics and proteomics technologies, genetics ethics and human subject issues, and case studies. A second course focuses on human genetics and emerging technologies. Outlines for both courses can be forwarded upon request. The Research Center for Genetic Medicine also hosts an active seminar series of interest to the rehabilitation research community. The seminars are archived and available in the “webinar” format. Research training and access to all on-line resources, courses, and seminars is provided free of charge to NCMRR core users.
